Kickass Japanese Thing of the Day: Naturally, the Japanese are light-years ahead of everyone else in the beverage can arena.

This is so far from the truth.
America is far beyond Japan when it comes to advancements in aluminum can design. Not only was the aluminum can designed in the US, but the now ubiquitous wide mouth can invented by PepsiCo isn’t even used on about half of the cans in Japanese vending machines (although I can see why one wouldn’t need a wide mouth to drink Boss coffee).
But the most important development that really puts the US on top is Coors’ vented wide mouth can. A ready to shotgun beer; that’s an amazing engineering feat. If you haven’t tried it, and you are willing to drink a Coors Light, I highly recommend it. I hope it’s not long before we see the vented wide mouth replace the standard wide mouth on all canned beers.
Someone was trying to convince me that Apple is the coolest thing. If that’s true, and it just might be, I think it has a lot to do with the high price point. You can’t have a cool club if the riff raff can get in.
I prefer my computer clubs to have less cool, and more productivity, so I’ll stick with Windows and collect cool cred with my iPod Touch.

It’s sad that Pepsi abandoned that great logo they came up with in 1973, although I do have a sort of nostalgic fondness for the 1991 logo. At least Coca-Cola knew to hold on to a good thing.
