Kickass Japanese Thing of the Day: Naturally, the Japanese are light-years ahead of everyone else in the beverage can arena.

This is so far from the truth.
America is far beyond Japan when it comes to advancements in aluminum can design. Not only was the aluminum can designed in the US, but the now ubiquitous wide mouth can invented by PepsiCo isn’t even used on about half of the cans in Japanese vending machines (although I can see why one wouldn’t need a wide mouth to drink Boss coffee).
But the most important development that really puts the US on top is Coors’ vented wide mouth can. A ready to shotgun beer; that’s an amazing engineering feat. If you haven’t tried it, and you are willing to drink a Coors Light, I highly recommend it. I hope it’s not long before we see the vented wide mouth replace the standard wide mouth on all canned beers.
